The overall systems perspective is based on the importance of biomass in the transition to a sustainable energy system in general, and to the efficient and sustainable spatial resource use and production, and to increased product value chains, in particular. The focus is on biorefineries and the transition towards a bioeconomy. A spatial approach is applied in combination with energy system analysis, technical development potentials and industrial applications linked with the supply of biofeed-stock and market and policy aspects.
